Prefers sandy ridges or clay soils. Sun, drought, fire, and poor soil tolerant. Among wiregrass and other pine species. Recognized by long 15+ inch needles. Grows in Zones 7+.

Leaves change color in Fall and are shorter and more closely bound on mature plants than Bald Cypress. Also, Pond Cypress can be found in greater numbers further south. Sun tolerant. Grows in Zones 7+. Landscape value, especially around lake and pond margins.

Commonly identified by blue fruit that resembles large blue berries and glossy, green bay leaves. Wildlife and wildfowl value.
