Perennial with "wire" or barbed-like tufts. Leaves can reach up to 3+ ft. Found primarily in pine forests and upland scrub areas but also adapts to moist sites. Found throughout Florida. Used heavily in restoration projects. Requires burning every 2+ years in order to produce viable seed and flowers. Sun, drought, and fire tolerant. Important to native ecosystem. Zones 7+.
