December 7th, 2007

APF

SARASOTA, FL, December 7, 2007 – Aquatic Plants of Florida, Inc., an early provider of wholesale native plants and habitat restoration services, announced today it served as a conference exhibitor at the 2007 Public Land Acquisition and Management (“PLAM”) Partnership Conference in Sarasota, Florida.

The event had more than twenty exhibitors and sponsors and over one hundred attendees. Attendees included local, regional, state, federal, non-profit, and private land managers. Also, in attendance were water managers, engineers, planners, attorneys, surveyors, public officials, non-profit groups, and others interested in conservation land planning. Speakers presented on multiple topics concerning land management challenges. Tom Pelham, Secretary, Department of Community Affairs delivered the keynote address.

According to PLAM, land management planning has become a more intense discipline with increasing urbanization along with industry technological advances.

Land planning is said by the organization to require unique growth management tools and a network of various perspectives – policy, academic, and technical. Also, practitioners must find innovative ways to continue to protect valuable natural resources in the face of limited financial resources.

Speakers indicated public recreation on conservation lands presents an added dimension for land managers. Numerous challenges arise as a result of public access to conservation lands: appropriate uses, public support, security, resource protection and manpower were given as examples.

In all, the 2007 conference boasted a full schedule of topics and events. For more information, please visit http://www.ces.fau.edu/plam2007/agenda.php.
